1.0 MANIPULATION OF A HONEYBEE COLONY

The candidate will be aware of:

1.1 the care needed when handling a colony of honeybees;

NOTES:
Work calmly using gentle movements. Avoid rapid movements especially if casting a shadow.
Try not to knock or bump or cause other vibrations around the hive.

Avoid squashing or killing bees – this can spread disease and encourage stinging.

Only use as much smoke as is required to keep the bees “under control”.

Be careful not to let the bees cause a nuisance to neighbours or others nearby.
